We all love a trip down memory lane from time to time and video game nostalgia almost tops the lot.

Whether you remember the days of Santa bringing that treasured game console or staying up all night as a teenager. A lot of us had an unhealthy obsession with some of these games.

What makes a title even more desirable is the music. It could be the opening theme of the game in the main menu, or a track heard on your travels playing one of the game modes.

Gaming offers a form of escapism and these tracks certainly fit the bill. It's far from 100+ track FIFA games most were reared.

We tried to get a good mix of consoles in here but I'm not even going to pretend that I was born in the era of an Atari or NES console. So for that reason, the list will mostly feature games from the 1990s onwards.

Here are 10 Songs from video games to make you feel nostalgic:

10. Spyro The Dragon - Opening Theme - 1998

We never questioned why a childlike purple dragon became one of the symbols of childhood. Spyro The Dragon was an emblem for the early days of the PlayStation console and boasted a unique adventure experience at the time of release.

9. Pokemon Blue/Red - Opening Theme - 1999

Handheld consoles were a bit of an anomaly in the 1990s when the Game Boy first came out. The 8-bit graphics might leave a lot to be desired now, but at the time it seemed like some sort of wizardry.

8. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Secunda - 2011

Recommended

A bit more of a recent one here but many put hours and hours into Skyrim when it came out. The open-world nature and peaceful surroundings provided for much enjoyment. 'Secunda' sums up the essence of the game well.

7. Resident Evil - Save Room Song - 1996

This game probably caused over half of the nightmares in my younger years. Resident Evil has survived quite well as a franchise, but it wouldn't be anywhere without the original. The 'Save Room Song' gave you a few rare seconds of calm.

6. FIFA 04 - Jerk It Out by The Ceasars - 2003

It's incredibly difficult to pinpoint a standalone FIFA trick from all the soundtracks over the years. The iconic Del Piero/Henry/Ronaldinho cover and the subsequent one-hit-wonder indie rock track worked very well.

5. GTA Vice City - Opening Theme - 2002

It's a pity Rockstar made hames of the remastered versions of these games but back in 2002, having GTA Vice City put you in unchartered territory. The opening theme captured the Miami Vice-style look and feel of the game.

4. GTA San Andreas - Nuthin' But A G Thang by Dr Dre - 2004

The Grand Theft Auto games probably deserve their own list, for Vice City and San Andreas especially. GTA San Andreas introduced many to a wide number of genres but the genre of 'Gangster Rap' might be the most remembered from it.

3. Halo 3 - Main Theme - 2007

This one is for all of you on Xbox. The Halo franchise was a treasure back in the day and they're still releasing games. While the theme stayed constant throughout the early games, the soundtrack for Halo 3 is as powerful as ever.

2. Mortal Kombat - Main Theme - 1992

Whether you were a Mortal Kombat fan, a Street Fighter guru, or maybe even a Tekken dabbler. There were plenty of 2D arcade-style fighting games to choose from. This theme however is outrageously in your face and catchy.

1. Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time - Opening Theme - 1998

Oh, the feels. The Ocarina as an instrument is incredibly random but a genius move by Nintendo to capture the world of Hyrule and the travels of Link. This song could make any grown man cry.
