We interrupt the steady stream of apocalyptic soundings from the United States to bring you some genuinely good news: there is going to be a new Sopranos movie coming to our screens soon.
Deadline are reporting that David Chase, the writing genius behind the original HBO series, has written a script for a prequel to the iconic series entitled The Many Saints of Newark that has been purchased by New Line.
It is going to be set during the Newark riots in the 60s. That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and will likely feature the likes of Livia Soprano, Junior, and Tony's father Giovanni as their younger selves.
Chase will get his usual auteur status: he will serve as writer and a producer, and is likely to be involved in the process of choosing a director. As to who that director will be is unclear yet.
