Sloane Stephens catapulted herself to stardom on Saturday night by winning her first Grand Slam title.
The 24-year-old beat Madison Keys, her best friend on tour, in straight sets - 6-3, 6-0 - to win the US Open.
Stephens is not long back from an 11-month layoff. A few weeks back, she was ranked 957 in the world. After winning at Flushing Meadows, she will rise to 17th in the rankings.
It was not just with a racket in her hand where Stephens has raised her profile. It was also with her words and actions after the match.
She was genuinely surprised at the amount prize money - $3.7 million - she gets for claiming the title.

In the post-match press conference, Stephens against proved herself to be incredibly likeable when asked if winning the US Open makes her hungry to win more Grand Slams.
Of course, Girl. Did you see that check that lady handed me? Like, yes. Man, if that doesn't make you want to play tennis, I don't know what will. Man. So, yes, definitely.
