Novak Djokovic may have had a lot on his mind as he took an extra day to get past South African Kevin Anderson in five long sets, but Novak Djokovic just about overcame his frustration to get through to the quarter-finals.
Djokovic wasn't at his best in his 4th round match, and got very frustrated. Unfortunately, he took out some of his frustration on one of the ball-girls. After going two sets down to the big-serving South African, the Serbian world No.1 was able to level the match before play was suspended overnight on Monday. When they returned on Tuesday, Djokovic's momentum had been halted.
In the sixth game of the set, Djokovic had dumped a poor shot into the net after a long rally. Clearly frustrated, the Serb was already screaming before yelling at the ball girl to bring him his towel. Djokovic was keen to apologise to the girl:
I’m sorry. There was nothing towards her.
Maybe she was just afraid of my screaming there. I was pretty close to her. I’m definitely going to try to apologise to her if I did something wrong.
Djokovic ended up win the tense five-set thriller 6-7,6-7, 6-1, 6-4, 7-5; and will face ninth seed Marin Cilic for a place in the semi-finals.
