Mark Williams defeated Aditya Mehta in the second round of the Welsh Open on Wednesday evening. It was an unexpectedly narrow win for the world number six with the match going down to a decider. Williams eventually took the victory 4-3.

The third frame of the match which was the real talking point. It lasted a remarkable 73 minutes. This was due to a large number of red balls becoming bunched around the bottom right-hand pocket of the table with the black hanging perilously over it in their way.

A lengthy tactical battle between Williams and Mehta ensued. It was one which Williams said afterward on Eurosport that he saw coming after just 20 minutes.

Though Williams knew he was unlikely to win the frame, he said it just was not in him not to try. Mehta won the frame to move within one of Williams at 2-1.
