Shaun Murphy has had the career at the top level of snooker. Not only is the 39-year old a former world champion, but he is only one of 11 players in the history of the sport to win the coveted triple crown of a World Championship, UK Championship, and Masters titles.
As it turns out, his sporting prowess is not limited to the snooker table.
It is known that Murphy is a keen golfer, playing off a scratch handicap. In fact, he even once participated in qualifying for the British Open. Considering this, it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that he has managed a hole-in-one before.
He is also a very good darts player. So good, in fact, that he has managed to hit a nine-darter at one point. When you combine these with the various 147 breaks he has had during his snooker career, it is quite the treble to boast across three very different sports.
Shaun Murphy makes big claim about his sporting treble
Speaking to National Club Golfer, Murphy said he believed he was the only person ever to have a hole-in-one in golf, a nine-darter in darts, and a 147 break in snooker.
That is true and, currently, I think it’s a club of one. I don’t know anyone else who’s done all three...
Wayne Mardle, the former pro darts player, is a good friend of mine and he’s a commentator on Sky now.
We always have the craic about what’s harder: is it the nine-darter or is it the 147?
Now, obviously, it’s the 147. Anyone who says nine-darter needs to go and seek a doctor immediately…
The last time we did it, I think the hole-in-one got thrown in and it was, like, hang on a minute, I’ve done all three.
I’m not aware of anyone else who’s done all three. People can send their applications in any way they want. There’s lots of room to join the club.
Managing one of these would be quite the achievement, but to do all three is remarkable.
There are likely to be few others out there who can match Murphy, although his claim that he is the only person on the planet to manage it seems like a massive shout.
We're sure there is someone else out there that will also want to throw their name in the hat...
