The professional snooker season is back in full swing, with the British Open taking place in Leicester this week.
The tournament saw a couple of early shocks, with defending world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan bowing out in the first round after losing to Alexander Ursenbacher. However, some of the top players in the game are still in contention early on in the competition.
Northern Ireland native Mark Allen has already secured his place in the second round with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Li Hang yesterday. It was a very comfortable afternoon for the 36-year old, who played some beautiful snooker en route to the win.
That included a brilliant escape shot to get himself out of a jam.
Mark Allen plays incredible escape shot at the British Open
Having been snookered behind the green and well out of sight of the yellow, Allen looked as though he was in a bit of trouble.
However, he would go on to play a ridiculous shot that saw the cue ball hit five cushions before making contact with the yellow. Not only would avoid committing a foul, but it would also turn out to be an ideal safety shot.
Sit back and enjoy this one.
Good heavens above, what a shot from Mark Allen.#snooker pic.twitter.com/r9qDL0bV2x

Remarkable.
Allen himself certainly seemed to enjoy it, bowing to the crowd at the time. He would then take to Twitter later in the evening to share the clip, admitting he was rather proud of that effort.
Another decent performance today and not often my highlight is an escape from a snooker but I had to share this 😂 @32Red brand ambassador. #BritishOpen https://t.co/1pX0VJOa8w

Allen will now face Gary Wilson in the next round, where he will be expecting a more competitive match.
If he can pull off a few more shots such as this one, you certainly wouldn't bet against him making a deep run in the tournament.
