The Welsh Rugby Union have been roundly criticised for a squad update statement, which explained that prop Rhys Carré was being dropped from their World Cup training squad.
The statement also gave the reasons for dropping him, saying that he 'has failed to meet individual performance targets set at the end of the 2023 Guinness Six Nations'.
Many fans took to Twitter to air their grievances, feeling that they had needlessly and 'publicly shamed' Rhys Carre.
Rhys Carré (Cardiff Rugby) has been released from the Wales senior men's preliminary training squad Rugby World Cup 2023
Following ongoing discussions between the player and the Wales coaching team, Carré has failed to meet individual performance targets set at the end of the 2023 Guinness Six Nations.
Wales Condemned For Publicly 'Shaming' Prop
This is absolutely awful. Performance metrics and targets are personal data and should be kept between the coach and the player.
This is a data breach technically against the player.— DeonLT (@deon_lt) June 1, 2023

It is not the first time either that Carré has been dropped from the squad over fitness issues.
In 2022, then coach Wayne Pivac omitted the prop from his squad after he failed to meet conditioning expectations given to him.
"Rhys went to South Africa and he was given a brief coming back as to what we expected from him in terms of his general conditioning, getting himself in the right shape to play international rugby and he's fallen short of that", said Pivac at the time.
"So he's got a lot of hard work to do with his club. He's having some big moments in games, which is clear for everyone to see, but at Test level it's about 60 or 20 minutes of intense rugby and he hasn't quite reached the level of conditioning required to survive in our camps."
This is the latest in a string of controversies for the national side, which most recently saw the sudden international retirements of Alun Wyn Jones, Justin Tipuric, and Rhys Webb.
