Three was early drama in Port Elizabeth after referee Glen Jackson only issued a yellow card to South Africa full-back Willie Le Roux after he recklessly took out international debutant Tiernan O'Halloran in the air.
Fellow Connacht man Matt Healy had to replace a clearly shaken O'Halloran and while Ireland have added a try through Luke Marshall during Le Roux's absence - the element of refereeing consistency has to come into play - especially as Ireland's CJ stander saw red in the first test for a similar offence.
