Ireland's favourite referee Romain Poite made another questionable call during Leinster's trip to the Exeter Chiefs for today's European Champions game.
Leinster take on the English champions in a crucial clash for their cup rugby hopes and appeared to take the lead thanks to a Devin Toner try. However, after consulting the TMO Poite did not award a try and instead, it was a five-metre scrum. This was all the more bizarre as the TMO seemed to suggest he could award the try:
Romain Poite is like the rugby grinch: trying to spoil the game for everyone else with pointless TMO reviews! #EXEvLEI

Worst TMO in the world.
TMO "Award the try"
Poite "you can see grounding?"
TMO "Eh, no..."
Poite "Well that's not a try then pal"#EXEvLEI #Leinster #Exeter— Chris Traynor (@PerformTraynor) December 10, 2017
Crucially, Poite asked "Try, yes or no?" and not "is there any reason not to award the try?" In his defence, a grounding was not visible on multiple camera viewings.
