Nigel Owens is the best in the business, and we were reminded why when Northampton hosted Montpellier in the European Champions Cup on Saturday.
Montpellier back Francois Steyn decided to try and put Northampton kicker Stephen Myler by shouting during the charge down, but Owens was wise to the unsportsmanlike conduct and quickly made it known to the big Springbok that he was unimpressed.
In typical style, he calmly and firmly told Steyn to cop on to himself and ordered the kick to be re-taken without a charge down.
Great refereeing. A vintage Nigel Owens moment.
Chris Aston is someone who tried a similar trick back in 2014, and he received a written warning from the RFU over his trobles, a reminder that unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated in the sport of rugby.
Myler would go on to make the kick at the second attempt, and also earned his side the win on the day by slotting a penalty with the last kick of the game.
Steyn should have known better than to try that around Nigel.
