When Leinster's Garry Ringrose first came to the attention of the wider Irish rugby public, as a sensational talent at U20 level that looked destined to be a full international in not time at all... There was a general consensus that we would all try and keep the Brian O'Driscoll comparisons to an absolute minimum.
It was tough. He wasn't massive, but he was quick, sharp, and clearly had a high rugby IQ, but nobody wanted to put the pressure of stepping into the centre of an Ireland team that was still dealing with the retirement of our greatest ever player on his shoulders. The comparisons were drawn a number of times, but we did OK...
And then he went and scored that try against Australia, looking like a reincarnation of BOD himself, and it's all gone out the window.
Now the first of what we can only assume is going to be a crazy amount of Garry Ringrose highlights packages has emerged, and it's bloody exciting for fans of Leinster and Ireland.
(It's a YouTube montage, you shouldn't need a music warning by now)
Not bad for a 21-year old.
He has shown maturity and discipline well beyond his years, so you'll forgive us for getting seriously excited about the potential he has looking forward, surely?
An unquestionable talent, his name is now starting to be discussed more and more outside of Ireland.
