Jack Carty and John Porch combined for one of the tries of the season for Connacht in their Challenge Cup game against Brive.

In what's been a disappointing season for Connacht, they took on french side Brive in the Sportsground this evening, hoping to show what they are truly capable of.

Currently 11th in the table, they face a battle to make the playoffs and Champions Cup rugby for next season, but the Challenge Cup has provided some success for them this season.

They wasted no time in putting down a marker against Brive, with some quick thinking getting them off to the perfect start.

Carty And Porch Combine For Brilliant Connacht Try

After winning a penalty in the second minute, Brive would have expected Connacht to kick for the posts or to touch to work off an attacking platform.

However, Jack Carty spotted John Porch free on the opposite wing, and made an excellent crossfield kick, with Porch leaping into the air to claim the try.

It opened the floodgates early for Connacht, with further tries from Conor Oliver, Cathal Forde, Conor Fitzgerald, Finlay Bealham, Kieran Marmion and a Alex Wootton hat-trick giving them a 61-5 lead at the time of writing.

The highlight of the scores however came from Porch, who is having an excellent season.

The Australian winger has been one of Connacht's  most consistent players, whether it be on the wing or at full-back. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Connacht fans will be hoping his future lies at the Sportsground.

The game could also be the confidence boost that Jack Carty needs. Not only did he create that excellent try, but he also had an excellent game off the kicking tee, and is now in touching distance of Eric Elwood's all-time points record at the province.
