Lions head coach Warren Gatland named his afternoon named his 41-man squad for this summer's tour of New Zealand.
Brian O'Driscoll, speaking on the BT Sport Facebook page, said that what surprised him the most was the size of the squad. It had been anticipated for much of the last few months that Gatland would name a 37-man squad.
O'Driscoll said that the most surprising omissions were English pair Dylan Hartley and Joe Launchbury.
The former Ireland captain also made the case for Robbie Henshaw to be the test starter at 13.
It's going to be a shootout between Robbie Henshaw and Jonathan Davies [to play 13].
Henshaw has the capability to play at 13. He's got the perfect game for down in New Zealand. Hard, physical, confrontational, good skill set, massive work rate. Thsi guy has a huge engine and that's what you need. You need to be an 80-minute man.
O'Driscoll said the inclusion which shocked him the most was Ross Moriarty due to the plethora of blindside options already in Gatland's squad.
