Andrew Conway was shown a red card by Nigel Owens during Friday night's provincial derby between Connacht and Munster at The Sportsgrounds on Friday night after a late and high hit on opposition fly-half Jack Carty.
After each side scored a beautiful try in the first half the game was beautifully poised at 13-13 as we passed the hour mark, but Munster were soon reduced to 14 after Conway collided with Carty following a kick.
The crowd were not happy as soon as they saw it and the replays confirmed that it was a poorly timed hit that could have been very dangerous indeed, so a red card was produced.
There was no malice in the incident, and Conway shook hands with Carty as he left the pitch, but it was reckless and a red card was the correct decision, despite Peter O'Mahony's protests.
Connacht would respond with a try through Tom Farrell within 10 minutes as the impact of that red card was felt instantly by those wearing navy on the night.
