Pontypridd pipped Merthyr in the quarter-final of the WRU Challenge Cup yesterday. The competition is the knockout tournament for the Welsh equivalent of the AIL teams. Their Ulster Bank League is entitled the Principality Premiership.
5,000 attended this game, demonstrating that the Welsh passion for their traditional club teams is still ferociously strong. Deep down, they still resent the creation of their makey-up regions.
