The idea that the Six Nations championship is 'rugby's greatest championship' took a hit last autumn.
The contention would likely produce the same reaction in the southern hemisphere that Stephen Jones's paeans to the Aviva Premiership used to generate among rugby fans in this country back during the European heyday of the Irish provinces.
But the BBC unabashedly claims that the annual extravaganza is indeed 'rugby's greatest championship' in their new promo. They're quick off the mark on the montage front this year.
In the wake of the bitterly disappointing World Cup (all Rugby World Cups are in this country) there is nothing like the Six Nations to come along and cheer us up. Not to mention the IRFU. The tournament remains their greatest cash cow and a permanent priority.
Things get going on the 7th February.
The Six Nations. Rugby's Greatest Championship. We can't wait!
