Here's a streaker from yesterday's New Zealand v. Argentina game in Napier. As expected, it was a bruising encounter between the two teams, but we didn't realize that the most brutal attempt at a hit would come from stadium security on a defenceless streaker.
Now we're fully aware that when you encroach onto the playing area as a spectator (clothed or not) you leave yourself at the mercy of the security personnel, who will most likely try to use you as a moving tackle bag, but this was way over the top from the Kiwi stewards - in every sense.
This aggressive attitude towards pitch invaders is especially the case in New Zealand - they really do not mess about there. A prime example was this whiplash-inviting wallop during the second Test against England in June.
Excessive or not? I certainly think so, especially the Richie McCaw impression from the second 'tackler'. Not great at all.
