For the first time ever, Italy took a lead into half-time at Twickenham against England.
Tomasso Allan had a kick in front of the posts with the score 5-3 to England. It looked like Italy would take a 6-5 lead into half-time - it turned out to be even more due to some lackadaisical England defending,
Allan's placekicking had been shaky all game but for once that proved to be an advantage. The out-half's penalty struck the post and then bounced down just five metres from the try line.
England were caught badly napping as winger Giovanbattista Venditti was first to react and crossed to line for five points. Allan would make the conversion to put Italy 10-5 ahead at the half.
