Ireland go into tomorrow's final game of the November internationals against Australia already short of two of their most important players - Johnny Sexton and Robbie Henshaw.

Since the naming of the team on Thursday afternoon, two further injury doubts have emerged - Jared Payne and Sean O'Brien.

Ireland defence coach Andy Farrell said on Friday that both have suffering from 'lower-limb tweaks' and so sat out the captain's run.

We've had a couple of guys that's had a couple of niggles, and the captain's run is normally just a stretching-legs type session.

We made a couple of decisions this morning to rest Jared Payne and Sean O'Brien and see how they are in the morning. We'll have a discussion in the morning about their situation.

They both have just lower-limb tweaks, that's what normally happens during the week.

You pick things up on the way from the game, through the week and so on.

The main session was yesterday and we decided to give a couple of players more time.

If both were to be ruled out, it would leave Ireland further short on experience - especially in midfield.

Peter O'Mahony has been drafted in as cover for O'Brien while the uncapped Rory Scannell has been brought in to cover Payne.

We've kept Peter O'Mahony here, and we've got Rory Scannell as well covering for Jared Payne.

All the main work's been done already, that's why we are resting them, to give them every chance to feel 100%.

That does leave the possibility of Ireland starting against Australia with a centre combo of Garry Ringrose and Rory Scannell. Presumably, in that situation, Ringrose - though named to start on Thursday at 12 - would move to the more familiar outside centre position while Scannell would play inside centre.
