They may have a season of Paul O'Connell to look forward to but Toulon have some serious allegations to clear up before that. Broadcaster RTL are reporting that French prosecutors have opened an investigation into pharmacies in the south of France who are accused of supplying banned products to Toulon players.
The move to open an investigation comes following a probe by AFDL, the anti-doping authority in France. There have been suggestions that the 'products' in question include anabolic steroids. However, Midi Olympique are now stating that those reports are incorrect and the products in question are merely painkillers.
If that is correct, an investigation will seemingly find that 'the pharmacists would be more concerned than the players and club'.
Mourad Boudjellal, the club's president, has stated that the accusations are entirely baseless and a press conference is scheduled for 12 o'clock today in an attempt to clear things up.
More to follow.
