It's been confirmed Munster will face Leinster in the Aviva Stadium should both sides win their Champions Cup quarter finals next weekend.
It has been agreed that the Champions Cup semi-finals will be played at the chosen venues of the highest-ranked clubs.
Munster are ranked third in the standings of the quarter finalists from their performances in the group stages, with Leinster ranked fourth.
However, should both Irish provinces make it through to the semi-finals, Munster will take on their old rivals in Dublin on the weekend of the 14/15 May, a decision that is sure to perplex some Munster fans.
In a statement by Munster earlier today, the province said:
“Thomond Park will be unavailable on the weekend of 14/15 May and no viable alternative venue is available within the province.”
Home venues are becoming a problem for the province, with their quarter-final versus Toulouse set for the Aviva Stadium, due to Ed Sheeran’s concert on Saturday week.
So far, 24,000 tickets have been sold for the game against the French and European champions.
Should Munster or Toulouse progress to face Leicester, they will play the English Premiership leaders at Welford Road.
Racing 92 are also in a similar situation to Munster. If they reach the semi-finals, they will play at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens, with the La Défense Arena unavailable.
