The fatal car crash which took the life of former All Black Jerry Collins and his wife Alana Madill left the rugby World in a state of shock as one of it's best loved characters was tragically gone too soon.
There were also serious fears for the health of Collins' daughter Ayla, who was badly injured in the accident, but members of Jerry Collins' family have given an update on her status, and it sounds promising:
She emerged from her induced coma approximately one week ago and, since that time, she has been monitored and examined for any negative impacts from the accident of June 5.
Ayla is able to perform basic functions, such as being able to breathe on her own and to accept bottle feeding. We remain thankful for her progress and optimistic for her future.
That is promising news.
We sincerely hope she can make a full recovery, and if she does, she will have her dad to thank for it.
Fingers crossed.
