There could be a resolution for the TV broadcasting rights to show the Six Nations on the horizon.
Minister for Communications Alex White intends to designate the Six Nations "free to air" to prevent satellite channels like Sky Sports from buying exclusive rights next year.
The Sunday Times' political editor Stephen O'Brien has the scoop today that the sacred tournament will be kept free for us all to enjoy. Interestingly the paper also reports that White's move will be met with opposition from the IRFU as it will mean RTE's price for live coverage will fall as only deferred coverage is free to air at the moment and the state broadcaster currently pays 1.6m for the right to see Paul O'Connell conquer flight.
Six Nations supremo John Feehan indicated last month that all avenues would be explored with regards to rights so perhaps we still haven't heard the end of this.
