Peter O'Mahony is definitely out. Hopes for Johnny Sexton's return are rather more encouraging while, although as yet unofficial, it seems certain that Paul O'Connell's Ireland career is over with the kind of injury that you wouldn't wish on worst injury let alone a hero of Paulie's standing.
Rob Kearney: doesn't disagree that the RWC and Ireland career is probably over for POC

Rob Kearney was not hiding the truth of the matter at the Ireland press conference this morning. Irish Rugby have yet to confirm but it's rumoured that O'Connell has suffered an avulsion of the hamstring, which is the medical term for saying that it was torn away from the bone.
Former Leinster forward Bressie has done a rather decent job of summing up just how severe an injury that is.
I am hear Paul O'Connell has torn his hamstring off bone. Up there with the most serious of injuries. Not sure how he didn't faint with pain

The Ireland captain is in hospital today undergoing scans but it is expected that he will have to undergo surgery in the coming days and, all things going well, he may be in with a chance of a return in three to six months.
