While there is a huge amount of coaching talent operating in Ireland at the moment, it has also become common for some of our brightest coaches to move away from the country in order to pursue opportunities overseas.

Ronan O'Gara is the most well known example of that, having taken in stops at Racing 92 and Crusaders before eventually establishing himself as one of the best coaches in the sport at La Rochelle. One of his former Munster teammates has also gone down a similar route.

Felix Jones has yet to step into a head coaching role, but it is clear that he is hugely respected in the game.

Having started out as a backs coach with Munster after retiring from playing, he would join Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber in leaving Thomond Park to link up with South Africa.

Two Rugby World Cup triumphs would follow, with Jones deciding to join the England coaching staff after the recent tournament in France.

Felix Jones has only been working with England for a very short period of time, but he has already made a massive impression.

Speaking at the launch of this year's Six Nations, England head coach Steve Borthwick admitted that he was blown away by Jones' work ethic and rugby knowledge.

Felix is one of the most intense people I have ever met. If I can say that, that is potentially saying something.

I can meet with him, have a conversation with, be on the phone with him for an hour and not get a word in. He has so much rugby knowledge it's unreal, and a work ethic that has astounded me. It has genuinely astounded me, and I have seen some people work very hard.

I don't know whether he sleep, because the amount of material he works through, what he sends me, what we talk about, so no. 1 it's his work ethic.

No. 2, it's his knowledge and understanding of areas of the game. On Saturday he was looking at some stuff on his laptop, he was picking apart an area of the contact area and showing things that I have not heard any other coach discuss.

He has an incredible work ethic and that knowledge he has is groundbreaking.

The third thing, when he presented to the players last week, the room was deathly silent. When a coach is presenting to the room, I come down the side just to be able to scan across the players. They were hardly even blinking, they were transfixed on what he was presenting.

Still only 36-years old, Felix Jones is very much in the infancy of his coaching career. Judging by the impact he has already made, there is no doubt that he will have a long and successful stint in the sport.

At some stage, it will be hoped that that he will bring his talents back to Ireland. There would be no shortage of potential roles for him when that move eventually does come about.
