The writer which every Irish rugby fan loves to hate had a feature in yesterday's Sunday Times titled, 'Match for the ages'. In it, Stephen Jones previewed this weekend's matchup between England's Luther Burrell and Brian O'Driscoll at Twickenham. Of course he could not resist a few digs at O'Driscoll along the way (he also threw in a few backhanded comments.)
The article was primarily critical of those who Jones perceived as "fawning" over O'Driscoll and believe him to be infallible. The main criticisms of BOD came in a graphic comparing the English and Irish centres.
According to the Welshman, O'Driscoll's current position is "auxillary-flanker" and his career peak was way back in 2001. Also included are some gratuitous stats about the number of times both have been dropped by the Lions and the number of tries per cap.
You'd also have to question the title of the article. Is a 26-year-old with 2 caps going up against one of the greatest players at the position ever really a 'match for the ages'?
