Concussion in contact sport is very much in the news at the minute.
The uncomfortable scenes when David Luiz recently played on for Arsenal despite suffering a sizeable but to his head certainly had people talking, wondering aloud how much football has been doing to combat the issue of head injuries.
Rugby have made some major strides in this regard in recent times, but more could certainly be done.
It is difficult to argue the opposite, especially when the horrific consequences of Steve Thompson's head injuries came to light earlier this week.
Speaking on The Buildup podcast, Stephen Ferris said that the sport has improved in this regard. However, he believes some pundits should shoulder more responsibility in not belittling dangerous collisions that take place on the pitch.
I'm going to be honest with you, I've said it myself where there has been matches on and went 'ah jeez, how soft is he going down like that?'
We've all done it, lets not beat around the bush. It's only when you go back and reflect...
We've got to try and stamp this (head collisions) out of the game. I think we're getting there, but we can't have varying opinions splitting the game of rugby. The southern hemisphere seems to be a bit different to the northern hemisphere.
If you're on TV on Channel 4 or BT Sport, you have hundreds of thousands of people watching that. Normally 70 or 80 per cent of those people, like me when I'm watching football and I'm taking in everything Gary Neville or Jamie Carragher says because they know the game inside out, all the rugby fans are taking everything in from the pundits.
For me, some comments are misleading to fans watching the game and puts out the wrong look for what we're wanting to achieve going forward.
I've sat there and gone 'the game's gone soft', I know that's been said since the Steve Thompson thing came out. I never want to heard that said again.
