It seems that adding three backrowers to an already packed squad isn't enough for James Coughlan's Pau. The French club have survived their first season back in the Top 14 with their Munster backrow of Paddy Butler, Sean Dougall, and James Coughlan. In preparation for next season, Pau already signed Australian Ben Mowen, Pierrick Gunther, and Ibrahim Diarra to bolster their backrow stocks.
But their recruitment hasn't stopped there. According to Midi Olympique, a former European player of the year could be on his way to join Coughlan. Toulon's Steffon Armitage has been meeting with Pau in the last few days, and it looks like they will agree to pay off his remaining deal with Toulon to sign him:
Assuming that Ben Mowen and Steffon Armitage would be automatic selections for Pau - it'll be a battle between the ex-Munster trio, and the two new signings to see who joins them in the line-up. Butler would be the front runner given how well his season was for the French club, but we'll have to wait until next season.
