After missing last week's draw with Wales, Sean O'Brien lasted just 20 minutes against France at the Stade de France.
The Leinster backrow left the field with what Schmidt revealed to be an upper hamstring injury:
With Sean, it looks like a hamstring injury. We feared it was a knee injury, the way he planted and turned. But it looks like an upper hamstring. It's always a loss when you lose him because of his high work-rate and power. We're just going to have to assess him over the next 24 or 48 hours.
That prognosis means O'Brien could either be fit for England in two weeks, or miss a lengthy period of time - but it does sound like it could have been a lot worse.
O'Brien carried into contact but just before being tackled by Wenceslas Lauret, he appeared to have his run interrupted by an injury.
After spending time on the pitch receiving treatment, he was later pictured making his way to the dressing room with the slight positive that he did so under his own power.
