Sean Cronin will play no further part in the Rugby World Cup due to injury.
BBC Sport Northern Ireland reports that the 33-year-old has been replaced in the Ireland squad by Ulster hooker Rob Herring.
Herring is the second replacement player called up to the squad due to injury. Jordi Murphy took the place of Jack Conan in the squad when the Leinster back row suffered a foot injury in training.
Cronin made two appearances in the tournament, coming off the bench in the defeat to Japan and the victory against Russia. According to RTÉ, Cronin is suffering from neck problem.
Barring injury, it is likely that Rory Best will start Saturday's quarter-final against New Zealand with either Niall Scannell or Herring filling a spot on the bench. Joe Schmidt will name his team on Thursday morning.
