After a couple of days to gather thoughts and look back at last weekend's defeat, co-captain Sam Monaghan was up for media duties on Tuesday morning as she discussed Ireland's recovery after a crushing game against the Red Roses.
Speaking about the result Monaghan stated how the team has moved forward and is now laser focussed on Scotland this weekend
Obviously it's not the result that we wanted and we've gone and experienced that now and we have that under our belt for next time but coming into this week now we're all guns blazing. We've really dialled it up a notch in training and we're all ready to get going again come Saturday.
Even with the positivity within camp and the faith that something is building, it was still a rough day at the office for the Girls in Green. Monaghan spoke about how they picked each other up after the loss and how they are taking each experience as a learning curve with the hopes that they can bring it against an in form Scottish side.
You can see we were hurting after that game as anyone would be but it is where we have to dust ourselves off. You know we're seeing older players put their arm around a younger player and say look this has happened, it is an experience and we've experienced it now and we can bring that going into Saturday.
This weekend's clash against Scotland is important in more ways than one. Firstly, it is a chance to get revenge for last years result where the Scots ran out as winners with a scoreline of 36-10. But most importantly this game could be the decider on who gets the spot in the 2025 Rugby World Cup. Speaking about what is at stake Monaghan said
I think they just got the better of us last year but we are a completely different team now and we're still carrying that momentum off the back of the Wales win. So yeah at this stage we have parked it, we had our reviews yesterday and now we've gone into previews. Our main priority now is to focus on Saturday, qualify for the World Cup and do a job on Scotland.
After record crowds in the RDS and Virgin Media Park respectively, the Irish girls are hopeful that the crowds will make their way to the Kingspan in Belfast this weekend for their final game of the Guinness Women's Six Nations.
