Australia and South Africa began their Rugby Championship with a thrilling game in Brisbane. There were some high-quality tries scored from both sides, and a tense ending with a highly controversial try.
Adam Ashley-Cooper got the try scoring under way after a wonderful move from the Aussie backs. South Africa showed that they can play too when full back Willie le Roux produced a magical offload for Etzebeth to crash over. Debutant Jesse Kriel scored a cracking try beating three players to run in in the corner to give South Africa a seemingly unassailable 20-7 lead.
Australia showed some steal though, and tries from Michael Hooper and Tevita Kuridrani that gave Australia a moral-boosting win.
The victory means that South Africa will lose some world ranking points, and will be just over a point ahead of Ireland, while Australia will leapfrog Wales into fifth place.
