There are many things that could be said about Brian O'Driscoll. In fact, most have them have already been said. Either on this website or in many other articles or TV shows, O'Driscoll has been rightly lauded and praised for his contributions over the last 15 years.
O'Driscoll has been shocking us with his play during his career, and last night RTE finally surprised him. At the RTE Sports Awards, Darragh Maloney presented O'Driscoll with the Hall of Fame award. Usually these presentations are flagged in advance, but it's very clearly from O'Driscoll's reaction that he has no idea what was happening. "That was sneaky" says O'Driscoll as he comes on stage, but it's only beginning from that moment.
It's quite a moment, and it's rare for anyone to have such a genuine reaction to receiving an award, as his wife Amy Huberman reflected on twitter:
