It's been a rough few months off the pitch for Ulster since the departure of Head Coach Dan McFarland. The Aussie had been under pressure for some time and his departure felt like a matter of when rather than if.
While some clubs would've had a contingency plans for situations like this but Ulster seemed to not be prepared for McFarland's depature and with CEO John Petrie announcing that he is leaving too it all became quite the mess at the Kingspan.
Some time after McFarland's departure it was announced that Ireland U20 Head Coach Richie Murphy will take charge on an interim basis until the end of the season and since then Ulster have steadily improved.
Wins against Cardiff and Benneton at home in their last two outings have put Ulster in a decent position to finish in the top 8 of the URC and with that a place in the Champions Cup next season which they desperately need if they are to get out of their current financial hole.
Report: Ulster To Offer Richie Murphy One-Year Deal
In a report by Neil Fissler of Rugby Pass, Ulster are preparing to offer Richie Murphy a one-year deal to stay on in Belfast next season. His son and Ireland U20 International Jack Murphy is also set to make the move up north from the Leinster setup.
This report indicates that Ulster have made a u-turn on who will be Head Coach next season, after reports from Japan a fortnight ago said that South African Frans Ludeke was going to make the move to Ulster from the Kubota Spears Funabashi Tokyo Bay team of the Japan Rugby League One.
