TV3 have landed a heavy counter blow in the fight for TV sports coverage after they reportedly won the rights to the 2015 World Cup. According to today's Irish Times, an announcement could be made as soon as next week and that TV3 had more cash to spend having lost out on GAA coverage to Sky Sports.
The Times also speculates that TV3 might do as they did in 2007 and sell some of their World Cup games to Setanta Sports.
This is a huge blow to RTE when you consider how much they put into rugby coverage, the prime time slots that a World Cup in England will have and the fact we have a bloody good side that has serious aspirations of getting to a semi-final.
And what of George Hook? The pundit announced earlier this year that he would be retiring as a pundit after the 2015 World Cup. Has that just been brought forward? So many questions.
