Rassie Erasmus has sustained serious chemical burns, after what has been described as a 'freak accident' involving a detergent product.
The former Munster head coach - who has been at the fore for South Africa's World Cup triumphs in 2019 and 2023 - is expected to return to his 2019 role as head coach of the Springboks, following the departure of Jacques Nienaber to Leinster.
Rassie Erasmus In Hospital After Receiving Chemical Burns
Thankfully the 51-year-old is recovering, with South Africa Rugby releasing an update on his condition:
Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby’s Director of Rugby, is recovering in hospital following a medical procedure for chemical burns sustained in a freak accident using a powerful detergent product.
He is otherwise in good health and expects to return to full-time working within weeks.
