With the 2023 Rugby World Cup just over a week away, a lot has been spoken about what teams are in contention to lift the Webb Ellis Cup in Paris on October 28th.
What has been discussed far less is what nation will be sporting the most eye-catching look at the tournament. That is about to change.
We have ranked the home jerseys of all 20 nations competing at this year's Rugby World Cup, with no shortage of top class efforts.
Here's what we came up with.
2023 Rugby World Cup home jersey rankings
20. Tonga
There's not a huge amount wrong with this effort from Tonga, but it certainly does not stand out.
It has a stock design look to it and is instantly forgettable.
19. New Zealand
New Zealand in 19th sounds crazy, but it makes sense for this year's tournament. Their 2023 jersey falls well short of the standards you expect from the All Blacks, with the strange collar and fern design not really working.
With the standard of jerseys high in the competition, we couldn't place them any higher.
18. Namibia
This is actually a fine effort from Namibia, but it suffers from some of the top class kits ahead of them in the rankings.
17. Australia
Australia jerseys have been largely hit and miss in recent years, with this effort unfortunately falling into the latter category.
It is just lacking something.
16. England
It is difficult to do much with the England jersey, leading to this rather plain effort.
15. Chile
One of only two Umbro efforts at the tournament, like England, this Chile one is rather forgettable.
14. Samoa
Macron are the standout manufacturer at this year's tournament, as you will see later in the rankings.
Samoa is probably the weakest of their output.
13. Scotland
Scotland have had some beautiful jerseys in recent years, and while this is still decent, it is not quite up to the standards they have set.
12. Japan
The Japan kit is a unique one, but it also changes very little from tournament to tournament.
That has seen it drop a few places in the rankings.
11. Ireland
The Ireland jersey has received some mixed reaction, but we think it is a decent effort.
Unfortunately, it is not enough to crack the top half of these rankings.
10. Georgia
The best European nation outside of the Six Nations teams, Georgia always seem to deliver nice jerseys at the World Cup.
This is no exception.
9. Wales
The collar and cuffed sleeves gives this Wales jersey a very retro feel and it works brilliantly.
The fact that this is only ninth points to the quality of kits at 2023 Rugby World Cup.
8. Uruguay
Uruguay are a nation that will not be all that familiar to many rugby fans, but they have produced wonderful kits for the last couple of World Cups.
7. Fiji
The collar gives this Fiji jersey a retro look, something we're a big fan of.
They will be hoping that this look is the one that propels them to a successful tournament.
6. Argentina
One of the most iconic looks in world rugby, Argentina never miss.
Beautiful.
5. Romania
Romania aren't likely to win many games at this year's tournament, but at least they will look good.
This is a beautiful jerses, nicely incorporating the three colours on the nation's flag.
4. France
France home jerseys can vary a bit in terms of colour, but we always enjoy the darker shade of blue.
This is a more modern design than many at the tournament and looks very sharp.
3. South Africa
Another retro inspired kit, the collar and cuffed sleeves work brilliantly.
South Africa always perform at World Cups, both on the pitch and with their jerseys.
2. Italy
Italy were very unfortunate to miss out on the top spot.
This is a magnificent jersey.
1. Portugal
Portugal might not be a rugby powerhouse, but they are the cream of the crop when it comes to jerseys at this year's Rugby World Cup.
This is a glorious effort, brilliantly working the emblem on the nation's flag into both the panels on the side and sleeves and the body of the kit.
It is the runaway winner for this tournament.
