Turn your mind back to Saint Patrick's Day, as Peter O'Mahony was ready to take his place on the bench against England in Dublin. A late injury to Jamie Heaslip, initially shrouded in mystery, meant O'Mahony was catapulted into the action from the off. Eighty minutes later he as man of the match, and now, three months on, he now captains the Lions.
O'Mahony was the captain in a comfortable Lions victory over the Maori All Blacks, in which he played just over an hour before making way for squad captain Sam Warburton.
After today's game, Stephen Ferris and Sir Ian McGeechan picked the starting XV they expect to play against New Zealand in the first Test next Saturday, and both nominated O'Mahony as captain.
Their selection features four Irish in total: O'Mahony along with Sean O'Brien, Conor Murray, and Tadhg Furlong. The team is below with a slight error: Elliot Daly is included despite the fact Ferris and McGeechan selected George North.
