The IRFU announced on Wednesday morning that Paul O'Connell will join the Ireland U20 team's backroom team as an assistant coach.

O'Connell announced his retirement from rugby in February of last year. Since then, he has worked with the Munster Academy in an advisory role.

The 38-year-old will work with Ireland U20 Head Coach Noel McNamara and assistant coaches Ambrose Conboy and Tom Tierney. The team is currently preparing for games against the Munster and Leinster A sides ahead of the Six Nations.

Ireland's U20 Six Nations Championship get underway on February 2nd against France.
