Paul O'Connell was on the Late Late Show on Friday night to promote his autobiography 'The Battle' which was released this week.
In hindsight, O'Connell said that the injury against France in the World Cup which ended his career was probably for the best. O'Connell tore his hamstring from the bone during Ireland's final group game at the tournament.
Paul O'Connell Late Late Show appearance
I think I was very lucky that I didn't go play 18 months in Toulon. It would have been a great experience. I think getting out when I did means I got out really healthy after 14 years as a professional.

O'Connell also spoke about one of his nicknames, 'Psycho'.
No one called me psycho really apart from Alan Quinlan who came up with it. He never lets a joke go. His thing with a joke is to keep telling you the joke until you laugh.
An early chapter in his book covers his love of swimming and how it helped build his competitive edge at a young age. O'Connell told a story which encapsulated the self-belief he had even at a young age.
