Rugby has changed a lot in the last 109 years, but apparently rugby supporters haven't. Check out this video from 1901 beautifully restored by the British Film Institute and narrated by current ITV and ex MOTD2 presenter, Adrian Chiles.
Apart from the bowler hats and bow ties, this could be a modern day crowd, especially the boys gurning and jumping for the camera. This amazes me, because film was still a novelty at the time, how did they know what to do? And how have generations of boys followed their exact example? For all we know these brave young men were the very first to jump around senselessly for a camera's amusement. "O brave new world that has such people in it".
Also, at the 3:52 mark, you can see a boy making the wanker handsign. Some things will always be funny.
