Munster's search for a replacement for Rassie Erasmus has ended, with the Irish province confirming today that they have appointed South African Johann van Graan as Head Coach.
Van Graan has signed a three-year deal, and will arrive at Munster in November.
He had been working as the Springboks' forwards and attack coach, and his arrival is somewhat of a coup for Munster, given that Erasmus had spoken openly of his desire to retain his services with South Africa. Van Graan will work with Erasmus for November to ensure a smooth transition between coaching tickets.
Van Graan today spoke of his excitement at joining Munster:
I am immensely excited and honoured to join Munster and to be part of a Club with a unique ethos and history dating back 138 years to 1879. Some of the words I associate with Munster Rugby are passion, excellence, ambition and integrity, and I feel very fortunate to be handed this opportunity. I am looking forward to working with the Munster players, support staff and supporters on this new journey, and to become part of their community.
Subject to work-permits, Munster expect Van Graan to begin work in mid-November. Jerry Flannery and Felix Jones will continue in their present roles of forwards and attack coaches, respectively.
