The wheels have long since fallen off Munster's season, but it appears Axel may be staying for a while yet.
The 42.ie are reporting that Munster are not willing to part company with head coach Anthony Foley, in spite of a miserable season that has seen Champions Cup elimination coupled with chronic Pro 12 underachievement.
It is a somewhat caveated vote of confidence, however: the province are exploring the option of appointing a Director of Rugby to work alongside Foley.
Parachuting an experienced figure in alongside Foley would not be an unprecedented move: future Irish defence coach Andy Farrell was brought in last month in a temporary advisory role.
Foley verbally agreed a one-year contract extension with Munster in December, although the contract remains unsigned. It appears now that Foley will remain at Thomond, with a director of rugby taking care of media duties and player recruitment, in a role believed to be slightly less hands-on than Les Kiss' current role at Ulster.
Foley looks set to keep his job, although next season he may not have it entirely upon his own terms.
