Ulster's promising young centre Stuart McCloskey will make a first for northern hemisphere rugby today when the northern province play against Scarlets. The game is live on Sky Sports at 2.30 pm, and as part of Sky's coverage, McCloskey will be the first player in the northern hemisphere to wear a microphone whilst playing.
We've seen how amazing these things can be, with NRL star Willie Mason (above), and NFL's JJ Watt particularly amazing when given the chance to be microphoned up during a game.
Sky are the first TV company to bring in player mics in this region, after the ref cam and hawk-eye initiatives of recent years. Sky's executive producer of rugby union said:
We are always looking for new ways to give our viewers the best rugby experience possible and I'm extremely excited about what Player Mic will offer.
