Late in 2009, against Australia at Croke Park, a game which Ireland drew 20-20, Luke Fitzgerald suffered a serious knee injury.
The Leinster back, then aged just 21, ruptured a knee ligament. It would rule him out of action for Ireland until the following year's autumn internationals. It also meant he missed the remainder of Leinster's Heineken Cup and Magners League games.
Speaking on Tuesday evening's Off The Ball, Fitzgerald revealed how it happened.
The player felt it was something he deserved as it occurred as a result of him attempting to take out one of Australia's best players - Quade Cooper.
I blew out my knee in a really, really awkward accident. I was playing against Quade Cooper and there was something about him I just didn't like. I watched him all week and how he moved, he had beautiful footwork and I saw that he's going to put that on here. I had a perfect angle too to take his head off.
It served me right as I was going for a dirty shot on him. He ended up slipping as I came in and took out my knee.
