A second half fightback from Leinster saw them edge past munster 20-19 in an incredible batter in Thomond Park.

In a game that always delivers entertainment at christmas, it once again didn't disappoint as Leinster won a titanic battle.

Munster will be kicking themselves as to how they didn't leave with victory, but Leinster once again showed their class.

Following Leinster's victory, player of the match Scott Penny spoke on just how intense a game it was.

It was quite intense, it was probably my first time playing in front of a full Thomond Park. It's a really intimidating place to go and I think we put in a good shift today.

We knew they would go through their purple patch at times, but I think our defence was really good in the first half in particular, and I think that's what got us are win in the end."

In a first half where Munster had majority of the ball, it was Leinster who got the first points on the board through the boot of Ross Byrne.

After having so much of the possession, Munster were finally rewarded for their pressure when Gavin Coombes crashed over after a TMO review, giving Munster a 7-6 lead at half-time.

Graham Rowntree's side came firing out of the blocks in the second half and extended their lead with a penalty try, that also saw Max Deegan sent to the sin bin.

This brought Leinster to life, and brought themselves within a point of Munster when Dan Sheehan caught Munster off guard and put Scott Penny over with a clever try.

The duo would be involved once again to put Leinster back in front, with Sheehan driving over just as Penny was stopped at the line.

Munster needed another spark, and got it through the introduction of Craig Casey. The scrum-half's looping pass found Patrick Campbell for Munster third try, with Carbery's missed conversion leaving them a point behind.

A combination in the final 15 minutes of tough Leinster defending and errors on both sides saw Leinster hold out for a one-point victory.
