Jonny Wilkinson offered thanks on Monday for his knighthood which was expected to be announced in last night's New Year's honours list. In response to newspaper reports, he tweeted his gratitude to his followers for their congratulations.
So many more deserving amongst u who won’t get recognition. To you I say thanks 4 the lessons in life. 4 the messages – u guys are incredible.

Those receiving honours were announced last night and sure enough, a certain J Wilkninson wasn't among them. Evidently given a tip-off that the reports weren't one hundred percent on the money, he deleted his earlier expression of heartfelt gratitude and instead tweeted;

It is a strange omission given Wilkinson's achievements, but perhaps next year.
