At least three Irish papers are running with the story that Jonny Sexton is on the verge of deciding whether or not to take up the option of a third season with Racing Metro and remain in Paris beyond the summer of 2015. The Indo, Irish Examiner and Irish Times all carry an article written by John Fallon and include quotes from Sexton, though the reading into the quotes through the headlines varies.
The Indo run with the headline "Sexton poised to sign new deal as homecoming hopes fade", while the Irish Examiner's "Settled Sexton likely to kick on at Racing for third season" also suggests he's staying in the Top 14. The Irish Times are a little bit more conservative saying "Johnny Sexton to finalise future within weeks".
Here's what Jonny said:
I’m just sort of taking my time. Obviously I just have a baby boy that’s taking up a lot of time, that’s taking up all of my time to be honest, I can barely fit in training at the moment. That brings challenges with living abroad, you do what Laura and I are doing living by ourselves.
We’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I think it will obviously be sorted out sooner rather later.
I think everyone knows where I stood after, with the interviews that I gave when I left so I will see what happens.
Sexton admitted to crying when he realised that the IRFU would not be giving him a deal sufficient enough to keep him at Leinster, which certainly makes it sound like he would have preferred to remain in Ireland at the time.
Come on Jonny, come home, you know you want to.
