In terms of contract news and the like, yesterday was one of the busiest days we have seen in Irish rugby, with the announcement of Andy Farrell's Ireland contract, the IRFU's blessing for him to lead the Lions in 2025, RG Snyman's reported move to Leinster, and the IRFU's sevens deal.

Among the many announcements from David Nucifora was the news that Ireland attack coach, Mike Catt, will be leaving the set up after the summer tour to South Africa.

The IRFU have been proactive in their recruitment of a replacement, and judging by Nucifora's comments, they already have their man.

We're obviously talking to someone and it’s confidential but we’ll probably be in a position to announce it within a few weeks.

Nucifora Positive Over Possible Ireland Return For Johnny Sexton

Since the retirement of Johnny Sexton there has been much speculation over his next career move, and while he has been working for Ardagh Group, there is strong hope among fans that he will return to the game in the near future.

It is well known that Sexton was coach like in his time for Ireland, Leinster, and the Lions, and when asked about the possibility of a return, Nucifora was surprisingly positive and forthright in his response.

"If he chose he'd like to do that [coaching] we’d absolutely work with him. I think for Johnny at the moment it’s just taking a bit of time to take a deep breath. It’s been a long career to decompress and work out in his own head what he really wants to do.

"There’s obviously a lot of rugby intellect in there and you’d like to access it or use it in some way if you had the ability to do it.

"But he’s got to decide what it is that floats his boat over the next period of time, but if he ever chose to want to come back into coaching the Irish system would be mad to say no to him."

Would it be a massive risk for Ireland to take on a man with no experience in an official coaching capacity, or a stroke oof genius?
